What are goal kicks?
A goal kick is also a way to restart play in a soccer match after the ball has left the playing area without a goal having been scored. When a player from either team kicks the ball beyond the baseline after the ball has made contact with another player from the opposing team, a goal kick will be awarded.
A goal cannot be scored through a goal kick. The kicker may kick the ball and send it to the post, however, no points will be awarded. Additionally, the kicker can only touch the ball once and cannot touch it again until another player has touched it.
A goal kick is awarded to the defending team when the ball directly enters the goal after being touched by the attacking team, and the laws do not allow an attacking goal to be scored directly in the case of:
- an indirect free kick
- a throw-in
- a ball on the ground
- a ball thrown from inside the attacking goalkeeper’s penalty area

The main difference between corner kicks and goal kicks is how they are awarded in the game. Corners are awarded when the defending team makes last contact, while goal kicks are awarded when the attacking player makes last contact with the ball.
