Warzone best ZRG 20mm loadout: Our ZRG 20mm class setup recommendation and how to unlock the ZRG 20mm explained

Build the perfect 20mm Warzone ZRG loadout with our class build recommendation.

The 20mm ZRG in Warzone is one of the most powerful sniper rifles to join the fray in both Call of Duty: Warzone and Black Ops Cold War, almost guaranteeing a one-shot kill anywhere but the legs.

Although it has a slow rate of fire and a magazine capacity that you’ll want to tweak, don’t worry as we’ve got you covered with our preferred 20mm ZRG load to get the most out of this new rifle. Either way, if your target is not wearing armor, the ZRG will likely take them down.

The 20mm ZRG, which arrived on April 7, 2021, first debuted in Warzone and Cold War: Black Ops in the second half of Season 2, and requires a specific challenge or blueprint to obtain.

If you’re looking for more help with Season 2 weapons, we have loadout recommendations for Sykov, R1 Shadowhunter, FARA 83, and LC10.

How to unlock the ZRG 20mm in Warzone

The ZRG 20mm debuted in the second half of Season 2 and can be acquired by using a shop blueprint or an in-game challenge.

The challenge to unlock this weapon requires you to earn 2 Longshot medals in 10 different matches using sniper rifles.

This can be done in Black Ops Cold War or Warzone. If you have the former, we recommend prioritizing that route for faster access.

In Black Ops Cold War, playing Nuketown 24/7 is a good option, but we personally opted for Snipers Only Moshpit. This mode ensures maps (including Nuketown) allow long-range shooting on both sides of the team.

If you’re not used to doing Longshots, the general rule of thumb is that whenever you find a good camping spot, be sure to back up as much as possible, as long as you still have visibility. Distance can be difficult to judge, and you’ll often find that staying close to a window doesn’t usually count.

But if you find yourself in a good spot in the corner of that room, for example, it’s best to just stand up and shoot whoever comes into your view first.

You only need two per game, so don’t worry about making yourself an easier target than usual; just get them out of the way quickly and then switch to your normal playstyle. Note that if your Longshot doesn’t kill the enemy, there is a brief window where, if a teammate actually kills, you can get the assist medal.

If you opt for Warzone to complete the challenge, we recommend avoiding Battle Royale and instead jumping straight into Plunder. This will save you a lot of time, since you won’t have to worry about whether or not you will emerge victorious from the Gulag encounter.

If you fall in battle, you will respawn in a few seconds. As for the specific sniper rifle, we chose the LW3 Tundra, but ultimately it’s a matter of personal choice!

After Season 2, the ZRG 20mm will likely be available as part of an in-game weapons challenge, similar to previous Battle Pass weapons such as the MAC-10 in Season 1.

Best 20mm Warzone ZRG Gear and Accessories

The 20mm ZRG is presented as a bolt-action sniper rifle that offers fast bullet velocity with a slow rate of fire. It has high damage against vehicles, which is important to note, and causes a one-shot kill to the head, shoulders, torso, and stomach.

Additionally, you can hold your breath to stabilize the weapon; this will allow you to aim steadily for about five seconds until it has to “recharge” to be used again.

Below are our recommendations for an optimal 20mm ZRG load, as well as the corresponding levels for each:

  • Muzzle: Agency Moderator (unlocked at level 46)
  • Cannon: 43.9″ Combat Recon (unlocked at level 30)
  • Laser: 5mw SWAT laser sight (unlocked at level 31)
  • Ammunition: Magazine 5 Rnd (unlocks at level 8)
  • Handle: Serpent Wrap (unlocks at level 44)

The agency moderator’s top spot was threatened by an upgrade for the sound moderator, but we still went with our previous choice.

It’s nice to have an increase in aiming down speed, but we’ll address that with two other attachments in this build, while the sprint to fire speed works better with a faster rifle like the Swiss K31. Adding bullet speed, vertical recoil control, and a longer effective damage range works better with the ZRG.

Speaking of bullet speed, we’re beefing it up a bit more with the 43.9″ Combat Recon. Your aiming stability will be slightly affected by this, but don’t worry as it will be offset by the rest of the build.

The SWAT 5mw laser sight may seem like an odd addition, but it’s crucial to improving the weapon’s downward aiming, which is slow by nature. Your target movement speed while walking will be reduced to compensate, but it won’t make a big difference.

You’ll also want to change the clip size as soon as possible, as the ZRG only holds three bullets per clip.

Having a couple of extra opportunities to take a shot is crucial. There is no need to look for anything fancy as the 5 Rnd magazine will do the job perfectly. In exchange, the reload speed is slightly affected, but it is worth the sacrifice.

Lastly, Serpent Wrap negatively affects your running speed to shoot, but takes even more advantage of that aiming speed. The last two accessories are key to offsetting one of the biggest disadvantages of this weapon.

Best Warzone ZRG 20mm Class Builds, Perks, and Loadouts

Here are our picks for the best items, like loadouts and perks, to create the best 20mm ZRG class build in Warzone:

  • Perk 1: Cold Blood (unlocks at level 29)
  • Perk 2: Overkill (unlocks at level 38)
  • Perk 3: Tracker (unlocks at level 51)
  • Secondary: FFAR 1 (Unlocked at level 40)
  • Tactical: Heartbeat Sensor (unlocks at level 30)
  • Lethal: Claymore (unlocked at level 1)

Cold blood is essential so that the AI guidance system and thermal optics do not detect you.

As usual, you should use Overkill to carry two primary weapons, but the secondary one is up to you.

We opted for the versatility and fast firing of the FFAR 1, but the PPSh-41 would also be perfect for close encounters to compensate for the ZRG’s fairly long range and slow fire rate.

Lastly, the Tracker works best for tracking enemy markers, so you can always have an extra set of eyes on your surroundings.

Combining this heartbeat sensor to better detect nearby opponents, as well as a Claymore to cover your back if someone finds your camping spot, is the perfect combination.
