This week’s Featured Hour is all about the Fox Pokémon, making it the perfect opportunity to catch a perfect Vulpix in Pokémon Go.
Vulpix’s evolution, Ninetales (aka Fox Pokémon), has always been a decent option in Pokémon Go. Even putting aside the fact that the fox is incredibly cute, his Go Battle League prowess means this is a highlight hour worth attending.
But if you’re not a fan of competitive play, the special bonus being offered along with the event is the double evolution XP bonus, which means that instead of catching Pokemon, you can get XP by cracking a lucky egg and going to the city.

Vulpix 100% perfect IV stats in Pokémon Go
This week’s Featured Hour is a great opportunity to catch a Vulpix with perfect IV stats.
Vulpix.
“Perfect” means two things in Pokémon Go, depending on how you plan to use a given Pokémon. First, there’s the max build, 100% IV, which is the 15/15/15 you’re looking for for your Pokédex 4*, raids, and Master League. However, because of how CP is calculated using three stats, a perfect Pokemon IV is usually just the best version of itself in Master League.
Of course, you can’t see a Pokemon’s IV without catching it first, but, with a bit of research beforehand, you can quickly spot a perfect Vulpix based solely on CP.
If you’re level 30 (or higher), you’ll ideally be looking for the following CPs for a perfect 15/15/15 Vulpix:
The wild CP value aligns with your trainer level until you reach level 30, and since the majority of the player base is now above this level, we’ve kept these values for the sake of simplicity. However, these values will be different if you are currently below level 30.
Is Ninetales good at PvP?
Ninetales.
The original fox friend, Kantonian Ninetales, is not bad at PvP, boasting top 7 positions and top 5 positions for writing in Great and Ultra League. However, it’s his quieter cousin, Alolan Ninetales, who really shines as a Fairy-type in the top 2 and top 3 in the same two leagues. In both cases, you’re looking to bring out the Shadow variant, if possible.
If you’re running Kantonian Ninetales, look for Ember (Legacy Fast), Weather Ball (Fire, Charged), and Overheat (Charged). Meanwhile, Alolan Ninetales runs Powder Snow (fast), Weather Ball (ice, charged), and Dazzling Gleam (charged). Here, however, we’ll focus solely on the fire fox, the star of today’s Featured Hour.
In Great League, the Ninetales beat Registeel, Trevenant, Alolan Ninetales, Galarian Stunfisk, and Noctowl. Losses will come from Sableye, Lanturn, Altaria, Medicham, and Walrein.
In Ultra League, Ninetales defeats Cresselia, Cobalion, Trevenant, Obstagoon, and even Charizard. However, be prepared for Swampert and Tapu Fini to snuff out your hopes, along with Giratina, Walrein, and Alolan Muk.
Finally, we have the Master League. Don’t bother trying Ninetales here if you want to win.
The Hidden Gems Season is coming to an end. Before it ends, try to finish the special research missions Fascinating Facets and Sky High. You can also complete a route and fight in Go Battle League. Be sure to compete in Shadow Raids, use Daily Adventure Incense for a chance to run into Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres. This incense can also give you encounters with other rare Pokémon in Pokémon Go.
Is there a shiny Vulpix in Pokémon Go?
Yes, as with all Kanton Pokémon, there is a shiny Vulpix in Pokémon Go! The shiny was released in October 2020, as part of ‘The Seasons Change’ event.

However, since Spotlight Hours does not have an enhanced glow rate, the chances of finding a glow are the same as finding it in nature. You just have a better chance of finding one because of the number it generates.
What does the shiny Vulpix look like?
Shiny Vulpix and Ninetales are pretty cool shiny ones, following a gold and silver theme.
Gold goes to the brilliant Vulpix, who changes his orange fur to a shade of yellow and his forelock and tail to a caramel color. It’s great, but the silver fox, the shiny Ninetales, is the clear winner. His traditional yellowish fur is now a luscious silver and the orange tips are now purple. With the red eyes retained between versions, it looks incredibly similar to a Ghost-type Pokémon, which I think we can all agree would be extremely cool.

Other tips for this hour of attention
Aside from trying to catch a perfect Shiny Vulpix in Pokémon Go, there are a couple of other good reasons to participate in this week’s Featured Hour. The vast majority of players who show up for this Featured Hour will undoubtedly do so to enjoy the special one hour bonus below:
- The best reason is of course the double evolution XP bonus that runs for the whole hour. This gives you the opportunity to accumulate a large amount of XP very quickly, so that you can increase your trainer level. The best way to do this is to have two tags in your Pokemon storage dedicated to this hour. The first is the things you want to evolve and keep (usually strong Pokémon and Pokémon you need to evolve to upgrade your Pokédex) and the things you want to evolve and transfer. This second box should contain all of the 12 candy Pokémon. The search string to quickly find all of these rated below 3* is: 0*,1*,2*&10,13,16,265,293,519&!shiny
- If you’re a newcomer, this Featured Hour is the perfect time to collect enough Vulpix Candy to fully evolve this Pokémon and register its evolution, Ninetales, in your Pokédex.
- Since Vulpix is a Fire-type Pokémon, catching a bunch during this Featured Hour will add progress to your respective catch bonus medal.
Remember: Spotlight Hour events only last one hour: 6 pm to 7 pm (local time). Come back next week, when Paras arrives with his Double Catch Stardust bonus, that is definitely One worth showing up for!
