Telangana Formation Day 2023: Telangana Formation Day, popularly known as Telangana Formation Day, is celebrated annually on June 2. The holiday commemorates the formation of the Indian state of Telangana. It marks importance in the history of the state for the sustained movement of Telangana over the years. Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao was elected as the first Chief Minister of Telangana.

The Telangana region of Hyderabad state began organizing in the early 1950s with the demand for a separate state. The statehood agitation of 1969 was a result of the Gentlemen’s Agreement not being implemented and the Telangana region continuing to be discriminated against in government employment, education and public expenditure. Residents of Telangana started uniting into various organizations in the mid-1990s with the demand for their own state, Telangana. On 29 November 2009, KCR declared an ongoing hunger strike to press for Telangana statehood. Students, workers and popular organizations joined the movement, which quickly spread like wildfire. Subsequently, the UPA government started the statehood process in July 2013 and completed it in February 2014 after four years of effective and non-violent protests.
Telangana Culture
The geography, politics and economy of the region determined the culture of Telangana. North and South India are connected by Telangana. It is therefore not surprising that the region as a whole came to be known for its Ganga-Jamuna Tehzeeb. Popular as “South of the North and North of the South”, Telangana is the best example of India’s composite culture, pluralism and inclusivity.

Telangana received royal patronage and achieved finesse in some classical art forms. The distinctive identity of Telangana is derived from the numerous groups spread across the length and breadth of the state. Some of the major art forms include Golla Suddulu, Oggu Kathalu and Gotralu etc. Perini Sivatandavam, ‘Dhoom Dham’ and Chindu Bhagavatham.
Apart from this, the Qutub Shahi and Asafjahi monarchs encouraged the development of Qawali, Ghazals and Mushairas.
festivals
Telangana is home to people of different religions and faiths, which clearly indicates the celebration of different festivals. Hindu festivals including Ugadi, Sri Rama Navami, Bonalu, Vinayaka Chaturthi, Dasara, Deepavali, Sankranti, Holi and Mahashivaratri are observed with fervor, joy and devotion. Dasara is the main festival with the epithet pedda pandura along with Ghattam.
While Ramzan is the main festival for Muslims, Telangana also celebrates Moharram on a grand scale. It is known as “peerla panduga”. Pir denotes a teacher. Most Christians celebrate Christmas and Good Friday with great fervor and religiosity.

Annual Report of the Department of Health, Medicine and Family Welfare (2021-2022)
In 2017, the National Institute for Transforming India (NITI Aayog), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, started an annual health index to track overall performance and state performance. And among the largest states, Telangana emerged as the third best in terms of overall and incremental performance.

Department of Industries and Commerce Annual Report (2021-2022)
- Telangana led the country in creating the best business environment, according to the second edition of NITI Aayog’s Export Readiness Index (EPI)-2021.
- According to the fourth Niti Aayog Health Index, Telangana ranked third among the largest states in terms of overall health performance. Telangana ranked first in incremental performances.
- Telangana introduced Telangana’s first IP mascot – IP BUDDY – RACHIT. A national honor has been given to the Singareni thermal power plant for efficiently utilizing fly ash.
- Telangana ranked first in the ranking of the Social Welfare and Development sector as well as the Commerce and Industry sector of the country. In the Good Governance Index-2021 (GGI), it obtained second place in the Economic Governance Sector.
- Ten panchayats figured in the top 10 rankings released in Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) and 19 of the top 20 Panchayats in the country were from Telangana.
- GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. “Telangana State Energy Conservation Awards – 2021 (TSECA)” presented the prestigious “Gold Award of Excellence” to (GHIAL).
Department of Information Technologies, Electronics and Communications (2021-2022)
- Telangana’s IT/ITes exports reached Rs 1,83,569 Cr for FY 2021-22, an increase of a whopping 26.14% over the previous financial year.
- As per NASSCOM estimates, India’s total IT/IT exports would grow by 17.20% during fiscal year 2021-22. Telangana surpassed the rest of the country in terms of IT and ITeS export growth by 9%.
- Telangana is on track to achieve Rs 3 lakh exports and 10 lakh jobs, the target set in the Second ICT Policy 2021-26.
On Telangana Day, which is often marked by parades, political speeches and ceremonies, numerous public and private activities are held in honor of the history and traditions of Telangana. The Telangana Chief Minister hoists the national flag in a formal ceremony at the parade venue, which is also the venue for the official procession. In all districts, the state celebrates the day with great joy and pride. All the districts of the 33 districts enjoy the big day with equal participation and enthusiasm.
