Skill Go Fest Challenge tasks, rewards, Elite tasks and unlock goals in Pokémon Go explained

The Go Fest Skills Challenge in Pokémon Go is one of three timed research missions launching ahead of Go Fest 2020.

This set of challenges focuses on your Pokémon Go playing skills, and if you manage to complete it, you will help all the other members of your chosen team complete a special objective.

While the Go Fest Weekly Challenge: Skill is active, you’ll also have a chance to start the Jump Start research if you missed it.

How the ‘Go Fest Skill Challenge’ works in Pokémon Go

The Go Fest Skill Challenge works like the other previous Research Missions that were introduced in March 2018, where players can complete various tasks to earn special rewards.

The only difference is that, like the throwback challenges that ran in May, the Go Fest Weekly Challenge: Skill is a timed research quest, meaning you must complete it before the quest expires.

The Go Fest Skills Challenge consists of three mission steps, each containing three individual challenges. These challenges will be designed to test your Pokémon Go skills, as the name of the questline suggests.

If you manage to complete the Go Fest Weekly Skill Challenge before the deadline, you will be able to access the Go Fest Elite Skill Challenge.

Jump-Start Special Research, which debuted last year as part of the third anniversary celebrations, is also available this week. This means you missed out last year and now you have the chance to start this special research quest.

Explanation of the steps of the Elite mission ‘Go Fest Skill Challenge’ in Pokémon Go

Once you have completed the steps above before the deadline of Wednesday, July 8, 2020, the Elite Go Fest Skill Challenge will be unlocked.

You also have until Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at 10:00 p.m. local time to complete the following. However, they don’t contribute to the overall Go Fest competition count (see below for more details), and as you can see, the rewards aren’t something to keep you up at night if you’re struggling to achieve them in time.

Elite ‘Go Fest Skill Challenge’ Step 1 of 1

  • Catch 100 Pokémon – 5 Pokéballs
  • Catch 25 different species of Pokémon – 5 Big Balls
  • Perform 50 excellent throws: 5 Ultra Balls

Rewards for completing the Elite step: 500 XP, 500 Stardust, 5 Razz Berries

As Niantic itself says, these are for “personal bragging rights,” so consider their completion its own reward.

‘Go Fest Skill Challenge’ unlock objectives explained in Pokémon Go

In addition to the rewards you’ll earn simply by completing the Go Fest Skills Challenge, completing the set of challenges will allow you to contribute to a global competition account.

The account you are assigned to depends on which Pokémon Go team you are currently on: Mystic, Instinct, or Valor.

When a minimum of one million trainers from a specific team, Mystic for example, complete the Go Fest Weekly Challenge: Skill, a new Pokémon will be unlocked for Go Fest 2020. If this goal is not reached, the Pokémon will not appear for the event.

Below you can find which Pokémon have been assigned to each and will be released if the million goal is reached:

  • One Million Team Mystic – Alomomola
  • One million Team Instinct – Chimecho
  • One Million Team Value – Chansey

These Pokémon will be added to Go Fest 2020 if the goals can be met.

Each weekly Go Fest challenge has its own set of unlockable objectives, meaning completing all three sets of challenges will help add even rarer Pokémon to Go Fest 2020.

The Season of Adventure Abundance is here! The Halloween event has returned, bringing with it Greavard and Houndstone. Party Play, Pokémon Go’s multiplayer feature, is here, along with the Welcome Party quest. You can also work on the Timed Investigation: Master Ball mission and compete in Go Battle League. Be sure to compete in Shadow Raids, complete routes, use Daily Adventure Incense for a chance to encounter Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres. This incense can also give you encounters with other rare Pokémon in Pokémon Go.
