The Solstice event marks changes to the locations of Solrock and Lunatone, which are two of the regional exclusive Pokémon in Pokémon Go.
During the Solstice event, you will also be able to collect and complete a variety of limited-time Field Research tasks.
There is also a collection of Pokémon that appear more frequently in the wild during the duration of the event, and which ones you encounter depend on which hemisphere you live in.

Field research for the Solstice event in Pokémon Go
This year’s Solstice event in Pokémon Go will run from Thursday, June 17 at 10 a.m. (local time) to Sunday, June 20 at 8 p.m. (local time).
You’ll be able to collect a variety of event-exclusive field research tasks by spinning PokéStops. These tasks can be completed outside of the Solstice event if you keep them in your Field Research collection.
These are the field research tasks for the Solstice event:
- Catch 5 Lunatone Reward: Lunatone or Solrock encounter
- Catch 5 Solrock Reward: Lunatone or Solrock encounter
- Reward for capturing 15 Lunatone: 1 Silver Pineapple Berry
- Reward for capturing 15 Solrock: 1 Silver Pineapple Berry
- Reward for capturing 10 Pokémon: encounter with Yanma (Northern Hemisphere only) or Snorunt (Southern Hemisphere only)
- Earn 3 candies as a reward by walking with your friend: encounter with Snorunt (southern hemisphere only) or Yanma (northern hemisphere only)
- Spin 7 rewards from PokéStops or Gyms: 3 Regirock, Registeel or Regice Candy
- Use 3 Golden Razz Berries to help capture the Pokémon reward: 3 Regirock, Registeel, Regice, or Regigigas candies.
- Earn a level 3 or higher raid reward: 3 Regigigas Candy

Solrock and Lunatone locations in Pokémon Go explained
Solrock and Lunatone will be available worldwide during the Solstice event in Pokémon Go.
Since they are both regional Pokémon, they can usually only be found in specific parts of the world.
This makes their Pokédex entries quite difficult to complete, especially for new players, making this the perfect time to add Solrock and Lunatone to your Pokédex if you’re missing them.
Once the event ends, Solrock will appear exclusively in the Western Hemisphere and Lounatone will only appear in the Eastern Hemisphere.

Everything you need to know about the Solstice event in Pokémon Go
Aside from the ability to catch Solrock and Lunatone, there are several Pokémon that appear in raids or more frequently in the wild. While some of these Pokémon, like Snorlax or Spheal, will appear in the wild around the world, some Pokémon will only appear more frequently in the Northern or Southern Hemisphere.
As far as raids go, Lunatone, Solrock, and Klink will be some of the Pokémon available globally. You’ll also be able to battle Regigigas in five-star raids until Thursday, July 1 at 10 a.m. local time, which is a great opportunity to add this legendary Pokémon to your Pokédex.
If you live in the northern hemisphere, you will be able to find Yanma, Chimchar, the summer form of Deerling and others more frequently in the wild. Additionally, you will only be able to battle Pokémon like Alolan Marowak, Yanma, and Petilil in raids in the Northern Hemisphere.
Lapras will only appear in the southern hemisphere.
Meanwhile, in the southern hemisphere, Snorunt, Snover and Winter Form Deerling will appear more frequently in the wild along with others. Lapras, Piloswine and Snorunt are some of the Pokémon that will appear in raids exclusively in the southern hemisphere.
The Solstice event also marks the release of the shiny forms of Yanma, Snorunt, and Regigigas!
Finally, you can also enjoy a series of bonuses related to your Buddy Pokémon; the walking distance to earn hearts is halved, while your friend will also find gifts and PokéBalls more frequently.
