Space agencies around the world have been passionate about searching for life and creating human bases on the Moon and Mars for years. On the one hand there is SpaceX, promoted by Elon Musk, who has made these types of missions his most exciting projects. While on the other side is NASA, the American space agency that believes that humans could remain on the natural satellite for longer this decade.
Howard Hu, leader of NASA’s Orion lunar spacecraft program, said that the Artemis missions “allow us to have a platform and a sustainable transportation system that allows us to learn how to operate in that deep space environment.”
“We are going to send people to the surface and they will live on that surface and do science,” Hu added.
“It’s going to be really, really important for us to learn a little bit beyond our Earth’s orbit and then take a big step when we go to Mars,” he added.
Orion continues its trajectory towards the only natural satellite of the Earth.
Recently, the uncrewed Orion traveled 232,683 miles from Earth. She was 39,501 miles from the Moon. On Sunday she cruised at 371 miles per hour.
Hu said: “It is the first step we are taking toward long-term deep space exploration, not only for the United States but for the world.”
“I mean, we are going back to the Moon, we are working towards a sustainable program and this is the vehicle that will transport the people that will take us back to the Moon again,” NASA said in an official statement.
NASA sent its next-generation rocket into space as part of its Artemis I Moon mission. The mission had previously faced two failed attempts, in addition to multiple delays and many unsuccessful investments.
The Space Launch System (SLS)
The SLS rocket was launched from Cape Canaveral in Florida. He then sent the Orion spacecraft into orbit of the Moon.
Orion will continue its path towards the Moon. It will orbit for a few days before its likely return to the planet on December 11.
In the year 2025, NASA is ready to launch the first manned moon landing. The last such launch was the Apollo 17 mission in 1972. The mission will include the first woman and the first person of color to set foot on the Moon.
Artemis I will lay the foundation for man’s deep space explorations and research and showcase NASA’s sheer commitment, determination, passion and ability to bring human existence to the natural satellite and beyond.
