Kargil Vijay Diwas 2023: Kargil Vijay Diwas marks every year the victory of Indian soldiers in capturing the mountain heights that were occupied by the Pakistani army. Pakistani forces, disguised as militants, infiltrated the Indian side of the Line of Control (LoC). It marked a significant escalation in tensions between the two nuclear-armed nations. India responded with a military operation to drive back the intruders. The war saw intense battles at high altitudes and both sides suffered significant casualties.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh paid tribute to the soldiers who lost their lives in the 1999 India-Pakistan conflict by attending the Kargil Battle Memorial on Wednesday.
On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tributes to the martyrs of the Kargil war. According to Shri Modi, Kargil Vijay Diwas highlights the epic story of the noble Indian Bravehearts, who will always serve as an example to their fellow citizens.

It is important to note that the Kargil War involved a combination of conventional warfare, mountain warfare and aerial combat. Some of the weapons used in the Kargil War included:
- Small Arms: Infantry units used rifles, machine guns, and other small arms for close combat.
- Artillery: Both sides deployed various types of artillery, including howitzers and mortars, for long-range bombardment of enemy positions.
- Tanks: Tanks were used by armored units to provide firepower and support during offensive operations.
- Rockets and Missiles: Rocket launchers and short-range missiles were used for precise strikes against enemy positions.
- Helicopters: Both sides used helicopters for troop transport, reconnaissance, and close air support.
