How to upgrade armor in Tears of the Kingdom

To upgrade your armor, you’ll first need to unlock one of the giant fairy fountains, then pay it rupees and material for each upgrade.

Depending on the item you want to upgrade, the amount of rupees and material needed will vary. For example, the first Snowquill Headdress upgrade costs only three Red Chuchu Jellies and 10 Rupees, but for its final upgrade, you will need five Rubies, five Firebreath Lizalfos Horns, 10 Firebreath Lizalfos Tails, and 500 Rupees.

However, sometimes the cost can be worth it: fully upgrading the Snowquill headdress increases its defense from three to 20.

However, it is worth noting that not all armor pieces can be upgraded. For example, the starting clothes you got on Great Sky Island cannot be upgraded.

How to access all updates in Tears of the Kingdom

At first you will notice that even if you have all the necessary materials, you can only access the first level of upgrades.

To gain access to higher level upgrades, you will first need to unlock all of the Great Fairy Fountains. There are four in total, and with each one you unlock, you gain access to another level of upgrades. So if you have unlocked two fonts, you can upgrade your gear a maximum of two times, but you won’t be able to upgrade any more until you have unlocked another font.
