Yungoos and Gumshoos, their evolutions, are two of the Gen 7 Pokémon in Pokémon Go at the beginning of the Alola Season.
Both Pokémon were released as part of the Welcome to Alola event in March 2022, making them some of the first Gen 7 Pokémon to appear in the game.

How to get Yungoos in Pokémon Go
Yungoos first appeared in Pokémon Go during Welcome to Alola, the first event of the Alola Season, on Tuesday, March 1.
Yungoos can be obtained through a variety of methods, both during and outside of the event:
- In the Wild: Appears most frequently during the Welcome to Alola event.
- 2km eggs
- Non-Event Field Research Task: Catch 5 Normal Type Pokémon
- A Melemele Adventure Special Research Mission – Available as a reward for one Step 1 Challenge and two Step 3 Challenges
- Welcome to the Alola Field Research Task: 1km Walk
Thanks to all the methods listed above, Yungoos is pretty easy to obtain, even once the Welcome to Alola event ends.
If you are hunting Yungoos during the Welcome to Alola event, we recommend searching for them in the wild as their spawn rate has increased. As of this writing, we don’t know what Yungoos’ spawn rate will be, but there’s a chance that, like most recently released Pokémon, it will be quite rare.
For this reason, completing the A Melemele Adventure special research quest is a good way to catch three Yungoos once the Welcome to Alola event ends. You can also get lucky and get one from a 2 km egg.
When it comes to obtaining Yungoos through field research tasks, it is important to remember that the tasks each PokéStop offers change from day to day. This means you can’t just revisit the same PokéStop over and over again. If you want to use this method, we recommend joining a local Pokémon Go group, because someone may have already found the PokéStop you need to visit.
How to evolve Yungoos into Gumshoos in Pokémon Go
To evolve Yungoos into Gumshoos in Pokémon Go, you need 50 Yungoos candies and it is daytime in Pokémon Go.

Since the time of day in Pokémon Go follows the current time in your region, it’s very easy to determine when you can evolve Yungoos. There will also be a small check mark next to the sun symbol on the Yungoos evolution button if you are able to evolve.
You can also easily find out what time it is in Pokémon Go by looking at the in-game map and seeing if there is sunlight or not.
This evolution method is quite similar to how Rockruff evolves into his Noon or Midnight form, along with how Eevee, Umbreon, and Espeon’s evolutions work, either without additional friends or walking conditions.
