How to evolve Bisharp into Kingambit in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

You can turn Bisharp into Kingambit in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, but doing so requires a lot of work. You could even say that lining up all the pieces here is like winning a masterful game of chess.

This is one of the new special evolutions found in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and it makes use of an interesting feature that is only possible in the Switch games, where you can see Pokémon walking.

Here’s where to find a Bisharp if you haven’t caught one yet, and then how to turn it into a Kingambit in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Where to find Bisharp in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Bisharp continues the long tradition of adding new evolutions to old Pokémon, and this one is majestic.

Bisharp, the Sword Blade Pokémon, is the evolved form of Pawniard, the Sharp Blade Pokémon. While you can evolve a Pawniard to get your Bisharp, we don’t recommend it at all, because you will need to capture a specific Bisharp in order to evolve one.

According to his Pokédex, Bisharp lives in bamboo forests, presumably doing ronin things, meaning he wants to go to the northwest of the world; Please see the screen below for exact areas.

You’ll then catch a Bisharp leading a pack of Pawniard. If you don’t have a pawn, you can also catch one here.

Our The Teal Mask walkthrough will help you complete the first part of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, but make sure you know how to start it first. When visiting Kitakami it is a good idea to know how to get Sinistea, Dipplin and The Loyal Three. Our Pokémon Scarlet and Violet walkthrough can take you through the main campaign, including The First Day of School, Victory Road, Starfall Street, Path of Legends, and, when you’re ready, The Way Home and the final boss. Elsewhere, we can help with the normal gym test secret item menu, version differences, the best scarlet and violet starter, XP farming, shiny Pokémon, and learning to fly, swim, climb, and run. When it comes to individual Pokémon, we can help with Gimmighoul, Ditto, Bellibolt, Pawmot, Scovillain, Frigibax, Brambleghast, Annihilape, Farigiraf, Dudunsparce, Lycanrock, Armarouge, and Ceruledge.

How to evolve Bisharp into Kingambit in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

The evolution from Bisharp to Kingambit is a multi-step process. Here is a step-by-step summary and then we will discuss it in more detail with the following tips:

  1. Catch a Bisharp leading a pack of Pawniard.
  2. Make sure he has a ‘Leader’s Shield’ item
  3. Defeat three more Bisharp leading a pack of Pawniard.
  4. Level up Bisharp to at least level 52.

Anyone who appreciates Japanese history and/or the game of chess can appreciate what’s going on here. Let’s go over this point by point, so you can minimize the time spent trying to evolve your Bisharp.

Catch a Bisharp leading a pack of Pawniard.

Head to North Province Area 2 (next to the Fighting Team Star base) and run around the bamboo forest until you find a Bisharp that is surrounded by Pawniard.

This is a Pawniard package.

Make sure he has the ‘Leader’s Shield’

This Bisharp will probably be around level 52. Pick him up and check that he has the Leader’s Crest item. It should be, if he were leading a pack of Pawniard. If not, he keeps looking. If you already have a leader shield, you can equip it to the Bisharp you want to evolve.

This element is essential for evolution.

Defeat three more Bisharp.

Now you need to find and defeat three other Pawniard packs and defeat the Bisharp who leads them, to show the entire clan who is most worthy of being king. It’s feudal stuff mixed with chess stuff.

However, Bisharp’s mirror combo is painful if you don’t do any legwork, so our advice is to teach Bisharp that you want him to evolve the Brick Break move to make this easier.

It’s a super effective fighting move that can one-shot any Bisharp you come across. If you don’t have it, the TM is located on the small desert island just north of you (Northern Province Area 1). Alternatively, you can check what MT you can create and teach it any other fighting type moves you can.

Level up to 52 and evolve

Once this is done, simply level up your Bisharp to level 52 or higher (you should be around level 54 or 55 if you followed this guide) and you will unlock the powerful Kingambit.
