Gold bars are a form of currency in Fortnite that allows you to purchase items, bonuses, contracts, and more.
Throughout each Fortnite match, you’ll be able to earn gold bars by completing a variety of tasks, as rewards. Once you’ve built up a small reserve of gold bars, you can spend them on services that will give you an advantage over other players!

How to earn gold bars in Fortnite
There are many ways to earn gold bars in Fortnite, and the most lucrative is by searching for vaults in Shattered Slabs and Mega City. You’ll need to defeat the bosses found in these areas, grab the vault keycard they drop, and then open the vault. To speed up collecting gold bars while in the vault, use Kinetic Blade’s fast attack to break the stacks quickly.
You can also accept rewards to earn gold bars. You will be rewarded with gold bars once you have killed your target, or a smaller amount if someone else kills them.
Eliminated players will also drop gold bars.
You can find cash registers and safes around the map, which will reward you with gold bars when you open them. Gas stations are the best places to check, and at the time of writing, there are plenty of them in Mega City’s stores and buildings.
Another way is by opening chests that, randomly, may contain a certain amount of gold bars.
From time to time, additional ways to earn gold bars are added. For example, golden chicken eggs are added during Easter events, which grant gold when you interact with them. The Most Wanted event that ran in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1 awarded you gold bars for hunting other players with high Heat levels.
Finally, capture points and caches can be claimed, resulting in a variety of loot and gold bars being dropped. Try the capture point on Loot Island. There is also a vault there.
It’s important to note that unlike any other resource in Fortnite, your gold bar stash will carry over from match to match. You can check exactly how many gold bars you currently have by looking at the map screen or the HUD at the bottom right of the screen.
This means you can easily build up a supply as you play, without having to worry about spending them all in the final storm circle. It also means that you won’t lose any of your gold bars when you die!

What can you spend gold bars on in Fortnite?
Once you’ve collected a good amount of gold bars in Fortnite, you’ll want to spend them and there are plenty of ways to do so.
These are the main ways you can spend your gold bars to gain an advantage in battle:
- Vending machines
- Start a reward
- Repeated increases
- Upgrade stations
- Hire NPCs or buy items from them
Remember: as long as you don’t spend them, your gold bars will carry over to each match, so don’t feel like you have to spend them. Please note that gold bars do not currently transfer between seasons and chapters. So spend everything you have before the season ends!
