It would not be wrong to say that New Year’s Day is probably the most celebrated day globally as most nations officially follow the Gregorian calendar.
According to the Gregorian calendar, New Year’s Day was dedicated to Janus, the god of doors and beginnings by the Romans. The first month of the year, January, is named after him. Later, this date was celebrated on the occasion of the Feast of the Circumcision of Christ which took place on the eighth day of Christ’s life. Jesus Christ was born on December 25.
New Year’s Day is celebrated on different dates around the world.
- The New Year celebrated in Ethiopia is called Enkutatash. It is celebrated on September 11.
- New Year is celebrated in Cambodia on April 13 or 14, known as Chaul Chnam Thmey.
- Chinese New Year is celebrated between January 20 and February 20.
- The Japanese New Year is celebrated on January 1.
- Koreans also celebrate Solar New Year’s Day on January 1 every year, known as Sheolalfollowing the Gregorian calendar.
