Happy Makar Sankranti 2023: It is the harvest festival celebrated in India. This year it is celebrated on January 14. The festival is dedicated to the Sun God. It marks the day of the sun’s transit into the zodiac sign Makara (Capricorn), signifying the end of the winter season and the beginning of the longer days. According to the Hindu calendar, Makar Sankranti falls on the first day of the month of Magha.

People celebrate the festival by distributing til, jaggery, sesame laddoos, flying kites, etc. It is celebrated in various parts of the country. In Tamil Nadu, it is known as Pongal, Bihu in Assam and Pedda Pandaga in Telangana.
