The Final Fantasy 15 Type-D Off-Road Vehicle is one of many free post-launch updates introduced to the massive open-world role-playing game following its release in late 2016.
As part of update 1.12 alongside the release of Episode Prompto, it fixes a common complaint since launch: why can’t you take the Regalia off-road?

Getting the monster truck upgrade is pretty easy. First, make sure the game is loaded on the latest version 1.12; this is the one that includes files for Episode Prompto and is over 8GB to 10GB in size, so it should be pretty obvious.

Then, load a save file and head to Cindy in Hammerhead and talk to her, who will be happy to tell you about a new off-road upgrade.
We used a post-completion save, but if you’re still early on, you can apparently get it as early as Chapter 3, useful for the many, many side quests that open up at that time.
Next, select it from the customization menu (it has its own option), then select it and the upgrade is yours. That easy!
We also assume that revisiting Cindy will allow you to change her back to her original (or flying) form if you change your mind.

- As usual, use the right trigger to accelerate and once you’re away from an outpost or other NPC-filled area (where the car will hit the track), you can freely drive off-road by moving the stick to drive as any other. driving game. - The Type-D can jump by pressing the Circle/B button when the bottom left indicator is lit green, allowing it to jump over barriers, rocks, and other obstacles that might get in its way and into the wild.
- Your party has a series of custom animations (including selfies!) for when you jump.
- You can run over enemies and even kill them, although you won’t be rewarded with XP for your trouble.
- Although you can’t ride the Type-D into deep bodies of water or outside the edges of the map, you can climb the rock arches that cover the landscape, then jump off and live to fight another day.
- As the game mentions, the vehicle is too heavy to push, so you must tow it if you run out of fuel while exploring the landscape.
- Update 1.12 also adds new Episode Prompto music that you can listen to on the radio.
