Final Fantasy 15 Timed Quests – How to earn Quest Points (QP) and unlock the Afrosword

How Final Fantasy 15 Timed Missions Work Now

Originally launched as a competitive online event, Timed Quests no longer offer leaderboard functionality or new updates, but can still be completed every day to unlock unique rewards.

To start a timed mission, load a save file and go to the menu screen, and an option will appear at the bottom. There will be a statistics screen, where you can see the restrictions and a reward.

Previously, timed missions allowed you to rank against all other players competing by hours, days, and events. When you compete in a timed mission, your score is submitted to a leaderboard, which is then ranked against other players.

Depending on your position at the end, you received different points rewarded; Ranking in the top 100 gives you much higher earnings than if you were in the top 1000, for example.

Previously there were leaderboards for each timed event.

Ranking gave you two different types of quest points (or QPs) and, rather confusingly, they are called exactly the same. One is for the Prize Exchange store and the other is a limited time store for that specific event.

Although you can still earn Quest Points, there is only a single set of QPs and rewards to choose from. Additionally, there is one new event available per day to try (which are mostly combat-oriented and designed for endgame players), don’t expect any new additions to the roster now that the activity is offline-only.

How Timed Missions Worked Previously

When timed missions were enabled online, they worked a little differently, with rewards awarded based on your ranking on a leaderboard against other players.

If you’re curious, the rewards are as follows:

Hourly range This QP event Prize Exchange QP
Top 100 40 1
top 500 30 1
1000 best twenty 1
2500 best 10 1
5000 best 5 1
Daily range This QP event Prize Exchange QP
Top 100 200 fifteen
1000 best 100 10
2500 best fifty 5
5000 best 25 1
10,000 best 10 1
General ranking This QP event Prize Exchange QP
Top 100 1500 150
1000 best 1000 100
2500 best 500 fifty
5000 best 250 25
10,000 best 100 twenty

Hourly rewards may take some time to arrive.

Other things to keep in mind:

  • You can play (fishing or hunting) several times in an hour. So, if you are fishing and you get five catches, you can go away, rest and catch another four for a total of nine in that hour, as long as you do it within the same schedule. When it comes to combat, often leaving the area will reset the encounter.
  • Scores are uploaded and updated at the end of each session, but in case this is not the case (such as a server issue), you can do this manually in the Timed Missions part of the menu. The game says you can record a score “for about an hour” after an event ends, giving you a grace period. Don’t turn off the game before then!
  • It seems that both scores and rewards take a while to register, probably due to the aforementioned grace period for uploading scores. Based on our experience on the first day of Timed Quest, a score can take around 20 minutes to update on the leaderboard, while the rewards given to you on an hourly leaderboard can take 3-4 hours to appear. A little frustrating, but be patient! You will be notified at the time of connecting to the server (upload a score, go to the Timed Missions part of the menu) when it is ready.
  • In addition to QP, you earn titles with your ranking by hour, day or event, so you can show off in future leaderboards. Another incentive to reach as high as you can!

Below is an example of the online timed missions on offer: The first was one of the most unique, a fishing challenge where you had to catch as many fish as possible in an hour (starting and ending on each hour) :

Target: Any fishRestrictions: NoneActive: Chapter 1 onwardsReward: Prize Exchange (50GP), Event (50GP)

Location doesn’t matter; Go to a fishing spot of your choice and, as long as you’re connected to the Internet, you’ll be told your current high score so far within that hour and your overall high score. Now try to overcome it!

If you want that elusive Afrosword for a whopping 1000 QP, you’re going to have to do a lot of fishing. It’s available in stores for both all timed missions and this current fishing contest, but the rewards arrive faster for the latter if you feel like putting in a few hours sooner rather than later.

If you’re serious about it, we imagine the following strategy would be best; go all out for an hour a day and get a high score, so you get a good score per hour and per day (and hopefully for the entire event), and then also play little and often throughout the day .

If you are in a position where you can play five minutes every hour, then the points will add up; five of these fish caught should give you enough to rank among the top 2,500 players (and depending on the time of day, and as the event progresses and interest wanes, it could be even higher) to get 10QP for the hour. That’s 100 score submissions in total (10 GP per qualify per hour), but remember that you must also qualify per day, which will give you a boost.

The main rewards available in the store for this event include:

  • Afrosword (1000 QP)
  • AP x999 (500 QP)
  • EXP x100,000 (500 QP)
  • Wind-up Lord Vexxos (300 QP)
  • AP x185 (100 QP)
  • EXP x19,000 (100 QP)
  • Gil x200,000 (100 QP)
  • Oracle Ascension Coin x10 (30 QP)
  • Gil x20,000 (10 QP)

It’s not an exhaustive list, but it’s something to aim for, and if you don’t make it, as the tables above show, you’ll also earn towards the Reward Exchange, giving you additional opportunities in the future.

Do you need more help? Our Final Fantasy 15 guide and walkthrough can provide tips on the main story, as well as the many open-world quests and activities. Learning how to get AP quickly, EXP quickly, and money or Gil quickly will help you in many optional dungeons and tombs, including how to open and explore their locked doors. There are also many interesting side quests, such as the Scraps of Mystery and Professors Protege frog locations. And if you want to get around easier, you can rent a Chocobo, learn the infinite sprint trick, and later in the game get the Regalia Type F flying car. There’s also more to see and do with the DLC, like Episode Gladiolus and Episode Soon.

Some additional general fishing tips we can also recommend include:

  • Get the strongest rod and reel possible to help fish easier. These are for completing the Navyth quest line (which starts at the large lake Alsor Slough in Duscae) to get rods and the Totomostro gambling minigame in Altissia for the lure. That said, even beginner rods and lures will work well as it is the quantity and not the quality of the fish that matters.
  • Increasing Noct’s Fishing skill will improve his chances of catching all fish, not just the biggest ones, so hopefully you’ll have already made some progress toward leveling him up. If not, this event should go some way to increasing it!

  • Get the right lure for the fish you are looking to catch. Some fishing spots, like Muelle Galdin, display the available fish on a sign next to a shop selling the corresponding lures, which makes things clearer; This particular spot is very low level, perfect if you haven’t fished much so far. You can also buy lures from your car.
  • If you run out of fish, you can sleep and the fishing spot should respawn. Remember that you can fish multiple times in an hour and it will all add to your overall hourly score.
  • Make sure you have enough lines before heading to the fishing spot; Otherwise, you’ll waste valuable time going back to the store.
