Elden Ring Patches location, quest steps and what to do with Patches’s chest

Patches, a recurring merchant in FromSoftware games, returns in Elden Ring.

You can find Patches at the beginning of your adventure, and by “winning” Patches’ boss fight, he will become a salesman. The items he sells can be very useful in your mission, especially during the opening hours of the game, and some can even help you defeat a certain boss…

Beyond that, you can also find patches in other locations, in what you could consider an ongoing patch quest line, which will give you a final reward.

However, first you need to know the location of the patches and what to do with the patch chest.

What to do during Patches’ fight and whether to forgive and forget, explained

Patches will have a similar health bar to a boss encounter, and as the only ‘boss’ within the dungeon, it will hopefully function as such.

Instead, there are some key differences. On the one hand, Patches is as strong as a knight or normal shield-wielding enemy you might have encountered in Gatefront Ruins or elsewhere; In short, as long as you keep a medium distance, use your shield, and be patient, you will reduce his health. after a while.

This brings us to our next difference. Halfway through the battle, Patches will give up and ask you to stop fighting. At this point, stop your attacks and wait. After a few moments, the encounter will end.

Now ‘forgive and forget’ and you will forgive him completely.

Once you’ve decided on a starting class and a starting keepsake item, you first need to figure out how to level up, how to respec, and how to use Ashes of War. Do you need any directions from there? Our Elden Ring walkthrough and Elden Ring boss order can help you know where to go next, but we also recommend looking for Golden Seeds, Sacred Tears, Crystal Tears, Talismans, and some of our top weapon and armor picks. If you’re nearing the end of the game, we can help you with the Volcano Manor and Rykard quest, Haligtree’s Secret Medallion locations, solving Ordina, the Liturgical Town puzzle, Millicent’s quest, Commander Niall, Morgott, Godskin Duo , Maliketh and Malenia.

What’s inside Patches’ chest?

Sparing Patches will unlock you as a vendor, which gives you a number of useful items to help you early in the game.

One is Margit’s Shackle, a reusable item that you can use during the next battle with Margit. This is a mandatory battle on critical path, and while it’s not cheap at 5,000 Runes, the battle is difficult enough to make any perk worth investing in.

There are several other items, including a cookbook, but perhaps the most notable is a stone sword key, which you can also purchase for 5,000 runes.

By talking to him, you can also talk about a second unopened chest in another part of the cave, one that is apparently being left for someone special.

If you open the chest, a trap will appear that will teleport you to Mistwood, a short distance to the east in Limgrave.

If you do this, then you will not be able to get away; You must first rest in a Place of Grace. Fortunately, there is one on the roads leading from your location to the north and south, so head to either of them, rest, and then escape:

When you return to Patches, he’s surprised that you’re alive, but he’ll still sell you goods if you decide not to seek revenge!

Where to find patches after Murkwater Cave

Patches will not remain in Murkwater Caves and will, in fact, appear elsewhere once you progress beyond Castle Stormveil.

Like previous Souls games, there’s even a part where (possible spoilers ahead) he’ll trick you into looking over the edge of a cliff so he can throw you off.

However, the next crucial stage you will see him in if you want to advance his questline is in Volcano Manor.

Volcano Manor can be found on Mount Gelmir, west of Altus Plateau. You will find it on the same path where you are looking for the map fragment of that area.

Inside the mansion, you will find Lady Tanith sitting in an area to the right of the Siege of Grace with her bodyguard Crucible Knight next to her.

Talk to Tanith and agree to join her and the next time you reload the area, you will find Patches crouching at the entrance to the mansion hallway. If you talk to him, he will continue selling his products as before.

However, you can also activate the Patches quest line after you have completed one of Tanith’s assassination requests.

After joining Volcano Manor, Tanith gives you the hall key, which allows you to access the rooms to the right of the mansion. In the large hall on the left, you will find Knight Bernahl, an Ash of War merchant, and on the table in front of him is a card that tells you an assassination target.

When you have completed your first kill, talk to Patches again and he will give you a card with his own kill target.

The target is Great Horned Tragoth, who you may have seen as an NPC you can summon during the fight against Starscourge Radhan.

He can be found on the Ruin-Covered Precipice, which should be familiar to players if they decide to find an alternative path to the Altus Plateau instead of finding the medallion halves to operate the Great Dectus Elevator.

In short, this path is located at the end of the ravine north of Liurnia. Tragoth’s Invading Sign can be found in the same place where he fights Magma Wyrm Makar.

Tragoth is a hard-hitting character who wields a huge stone hammer but also has a crossbow for ranged attacks. But if you can bait him into charged attacks, you should be able to catch him at the end of these attacks. He will drop the Bull Goat armor set when he is defeated.

Once this is done, return to Volcano Manor and talk to Patches and he will congratulate you on a job well done. But what about your reward?

In fact, you’ll have to talk to him again and then select the option to tell him about this before he reluctantly hands you the Magma Whip Chandelier.

Where to find patches after Volcano Manor

To continue your search for Patches and get him out of Volcano Manor, you’ll need to continue the mansion’s quest line, which has you fighting and defeating the God-Eating Serpent (also known as Lord Rykard).

The next place you will find Patches is the Shadowed Castle, which you will have visited if you follow Millicent’s quest line.

You’ll find Patches slumped in the corner in front of the castle boss (he will appear in this spot whether you’ve defeated this boss or not).

Talk to him and he will give you the Dancer’s Castanets item and tell you to give it to Lady Tanith before apparently dying.

At this point, Tanith and her knight will have left the mansion. However, if you fast travel back to the Siege of Grace where you fought Rykard, you will find her lying next to her fallen lord, eating him.

You can talk to her and have the option to give her the Dancer’s Castanets although she will ignore you. In any case, doing this will make her key items disappear, but it doesn’t seem to do anything else.

You can now leave the area or kill Tanith if you want to trigger an optional fight.

Where to find patches after Shaded Castle

April patch 1.04 added a final part of the Patches quest. So, having given the dancer’s castanets to Tanith, he returns to the Murkwater caves. If you head to where Patches was originally, you will find that the area has a wall of fog once again.

Enter and you will find another chest, which only has a glass shard inside. It’s deja vu, as once again Patches will ambush you from above with his spear and his large shield.

You won’t even have to fight him, though, as he’ll suddenly recognize you and surrender almost immediately. You’ll automatically be rewarded with Patches’ Crouch emote, which will allow you to crouch like he does.

That’s basically the end of Patches’ questline and he’ll stay in Murkwater Caves to sell the same things as before.

Or you can also kill him to take his equipment (a set of leather armor and a +7 spear, so nothing to write home about) and Patches’ Bell Bearing, which can be given to Twin Maiden Husks in the Roundtable Hold. , although instead it will simply be buying them the same things.

The choice is yours!
