The Elden Ring Glintstone key is an item that you must find as part of the game’s critical path.
Also known as the academy key, it opens the way to the second major dungeon in the game, the Raya Lucaria Academy.
The first time you will hear about the Glintstone Key from the sorcerer Thops will be when you reach the Lakes, and both the key and the seal of the Academy it unlocks are found in the same region.
Returning to him later with a second Glintstone Key also concludes Thops’ quest.

Elden Ring Glintstone Key Location
If you go to the south gates of Raya Lucaria Academy, you can find a map of the meeting place next to the seal, which gives us a clue as to where to find the Glintstone key.
Whether you take it first or not, you can find the Glintstone Key location behind the Glintstone Dragon Smarag, just west of the Academy.
If you’ve explored the region a bit, this is just north of the Temple Quarter’s Site of Grace.
Approaching from the south, the dragon will be sleeping in an alcove blocking the path to the items.
However, if you sneak and flank from either side, it is possible to get past them and catch up to them.
The dragon may still wake up, but you’ll have more than enough time to grab the Glintstone Key before the boss battle starts – it’s resting on the corpse in the back.
If you can, there are other items here: Kikri swords and Dragonwould grease; Otherwise, it’s time to hop on Torrent and make a quick escape.
Where to use the Glintstone key
Once you have the Glintstone Key, you can find the seal south of the Academy. To get to it, you need to visit Academy Gate Town in the southwest, then approach the stairs leading west, past the enemies, and then up towards the gate. Use your horse or run to avoid as much as possible without fighting and rest at the Site of Grace.
With the Glintstone Key in your inventory, approach the seal to be teleported to the Academy dungeon area, where the Academy Main Gate Grace Site is located which you can use to return later.
While you’re here, approach the seal to the north to reach the Bellum Highway area and look for another Site of Grace to help you explore that region when you’re ready.

Where to find a second Glintstone key for the Throps quest
If you spoke to the sorcerer Thops in the Church of Irith about the Glintstone Key, he will ask if you would be interested in an additional Glintstone Key if you can find one.
The second Glintstone Key location is located inside the Raya Lucaria Academy dungeon. The route there is long and winding: it involves running between magicians, scaling multiple ceilings before falling from the ceiling beams into a chandelier. Once this is done, return to Throps in the Church and give him the key. It will then move the location to the Academy, specifically to the School Classroom. Go down the stairs from the Sitio de Gracia and around the right corner to find it.
You will then receive Thop’s Bell, the Academy’s Shining Stone Staff, and Thop’s Barrier. The Bell Bearing can then be taken to Roundtable Hold’s Twin Maiden Husks to purchase the Glintstone Pebble, Glintstone Arc, and Starlight spells.
