Destiny 2’s Forerunner is an Exotic quest released alongside Bungie’s 30th Anniversary Update.
Inspired by the Magnum from the Halo series, unlike the Gjallarhorn which requires the purchase of the DLC, the Forerunner Magnum Opus mission is free for all players.
The quest steps have you start by collecting the returning Strange Coin before leveling Dares of Eternity and making use of Xur. I miss youand.

How to get Forerunner in Destiny 2 soon
Here’s a quick summary of the steps needed to get Forerunner:
- Visit Xur’s treasure and complete the quest To The Daring Go The Spoils.
- Return to Xur and pick up the Magnum Opus quest.
- Collect seven strange coins
- Complete up to three Starhorse bounties
- Reach Strange Favor rank four and unlock the Strange Key
- Use the strange key and follow the route inside the destination of Eternity.
- Visit Banshee in the Tower
The Forerunner comes with the Full Stop perk, allowing for longer range, heavy caliber rounds, with increased precision damage to unarmored targets.
Once you have the Forerunner, you can upgrade it even further by unlocking the Forerunner Catalyst, which we discuss in detail at the bottom of this page.
How to start the Forerunner Magnum Opus mission in Destiny 2
First, you must complete a round of the Dares of Eternity activity, which was recently introduced in Bungie’s 30th anniversary update. You will play this as soon as you start the game after the update, which will reward you with a treasure key.
Head to Eternity, which is a newly added area on the Director’s screen, beneath the Moon, and visit Xur’s Treasury.
Talk to Xur, who will advance the To The Daring Go The Spoils quest step by giving him the treasure key obtained by completing a round of Dares of Eternity and then opening the chest nearby.
Return to Xur, who will then give you the Magnum Opus quest.
How to complete the Magnum Opus mission
Most of the Magnum Opus quest revolves around Eternity coins, rewards, or ranks. In short, expect to play a good amount of Dares of Eternity.
First, you must collect seven strange coins and then visit Starhorse in Eternity. Strange Coins are a returning currency from the first Destiny and can be found in a variety of sources.
This includes playlist activities (Strikes, Crucible, Gambit), public heroic events, completing bounties, and playing Dares of Eternity.
Whichever way you get the seven Strange Coins, visit Starhorse; They will also reside in Xur’s Treasure Horde, just at the bottom of the stairs.
The next step is to complete up to three Starhorse Bounties. We say up to three, since these rewards are divided into three levels (bronze, silver and gold) and the higher the difficulty, the faster this part of the mission will be completed.
The challenge here is not to bite off more than you can chew. Since each bounty must be completed in a single round of Dares of Eternity, it’s best to only take on whatever you know you can complete. Although these rewards don’t expire, you can only have one at a time, so choose something you can comfortably manage each round.
Once you’ve completed enough bounties, it’s time to reach rank four in Strange Favor and unlock the Strange Key. Strange Favor is the way to level up Xur as a vendor and requires playing Dares of Eternity enough times until it is unlocked.
Where to use the Strange Key and find the Destiny 2 Anomalous Item
Once you’ve unlocked the Strange Key, you need to visit the ‘patrol’ version of the Dares of Eternity area and find the Anomalous Object.
This can be accessed by turning around when you first enter Xur’s Treasure and enter the purple mist, which transports you to the area beyond.
To use the Strange Key, look to the right, where you’ll see some triangle-shaped rocks at the far end.
It is the first of them that you must visit in order to use the strange key.
You’ll know you’re in the right place if you look towards the main area and see the Bungie logo forming in the environment.

How to Get the Forerunner Catalyst Using the Anomalous Keycard in Destiny 2
Once you have the Forerunner Exotic, you can unlock the Forerunner Catalyst by continuing to rank up Strange Favor with Xur.
By reaching Rank 16, you can acquire the Anomalous Keycard, which is used to unlock the Catalyst, according to the Destiny subreddit.
