The official announcement of National Anti-Terrorism Day was made after the assassination of the seventh Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi, on May 21, 1991. He was assassinated in Tamil Nadu in a campaign by a terrorist. Then, under Vice President Singh’s government, the Center decided to observe May 21 as Anti-Terror Day. On this day, the anti-terrorist commitment is assumed in all government offices, public sector companies and other public institutions, etc.

The story behind this.

Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi went to Sriperumbudur, a place in Tamil Nadu, to attend a rally. He was approached by a woman who was a member of the terrorist group Liberation of Tamil Tigers Eelam (LTTE). She had explosives under her clothes and approached PM and leaned down as if she wanted to touch her feet. Suddenly a bomb explosion occurred which killed PM and approximately 25 people. This is the domestic terrorism that had created fear and our country lost the prime minister.

MHA has also suggested that considering the importance and solemnity of the occasion, innovative ways of propagating the anti-terrorism message through digital and social media platforms can be considered.

We cannot forget the famous attack on the World Trade Center, which was a terrorist attack. The November 26, 2011 attack in Mumbai is also no exception in this regard. Therefore, Anti-Terrorist Day expresses anger and shows solidarity with humanity. Terrorism is an act that causes loss of life and fear of death among people due to the terrible acts of terrorists. Without a doubt it is an attack on the rights of human beings. Therefore, we must unite and eliminate it by spreading love, care, etc.

It is correctly said that “Terrorists have no religion. They only understand the language of devastation.”

National Anti-Terrorism Day is an important day in India as it urges people to be alert and careful in their daily lives. It promotes peace by encouraging people to leave their differences behind and coexist harmoniously. It makes us realize how important it is to keep society peaceful.
