There are a lot of moving parts when it comes to the release of Warzone 2.0, so you’ll probably need a little help figuring it all out.

Here’s the Warzone 2.0 release time and when Warzone will shut down.

Warzone 2.0 preload details

You can start preloading Warzone 2.0, as well as download the update that includes Season 1 of Modern Warfare 2, two days before launch.

Warzone 2.0 preload is now available, following its launch on Monday, November 14 at 6pm UK/10am PT.

On consoles, you can download it from the PlayStation Store (remember the UK and US are different) or Xbox.

Confusingly, you should know that downloading Warzone 2.0 will also download Modern Warfare 2, even if you don’t have a copy of the game. This is because, like the original, Modern Warfare 2 acts as the launcher for Warzone 2.0. Our Ishraq report explains this in more detail if you need further clarity.

UPDATE (November 16, 10am UK): After being delighted that Xbox owners only need to get the relatively small content pack 4 to get the Warzone 2.0 files, there’s now a 68GB patch coming in the morning of the game’s release. After downloading it, we can confirm that Warzone 2.0 appears on the home screen, suggesting that is now all you need.

UPDATE: I spoke too soon, as MW2/Warzone 2.0 will download another 68GB patch on Xbox this morning. If you plan to play tonight, you better start now: pic.twitter.com/BWtp38EB8L

When will Warzone close?

To focus on the release of Warzone 2.0, developers at Activision will be taking the original Warzone offline for a short period.

During this period, Warzone will be completely inaccessible. Closing time will occur on Wednesday, November 16 at the following times:

  • United Kingdom: 16:00 (GMT)
  • Europe: 5:00 p.m. (CET)
  • US West Coast: 8 am (PT)
  • US East Coast: 11 am (ET)

This is two hours before Warzone 2.0 launches, so you won’t have to wait too long without a free Call of Duty Battle Royale on hand.

From there, the original Warzone will be renamed ‘Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera’ and will return on November 28 at 10am PT / 6pm GMT.

As a thank you to the community, anyone who played the original Warzone will receive “some items to use” in its sequel.

That’s all you need to know about when Warzone 2.0 launches and when the original Warzone will shut down.

You can read more about the upcoming Warzone 2.0 map if you don’t mind some spoilers, and elsewhere learn about attachments and weapon tuning in Modern Warfare 2; Weapons are shared between the two games, so start preparing!
