Who was Silvio Berlusconi?

Born on September 29, 1936 in Milan, Italy, Italian media magnate and former Prime Minister of Italy, Silvio Berlusconi was Prime Minister three times.

Silvio Berlusconi graduated in Law from the University of Milan. Later, he became a real estate developer. By 1970 he had already accumulated a considerable fortune. After that, the man created Telemilano, the cable TV movie in the year 1974. In the year 1980, Silvio Berlusconi established the country’s first commercial television network, Canale 5. In the late 1980s, Silvio Berlusconi’s stations became super popular on the Italian airwaves. He achieved another milestone when he diversified his business holdings and acquired movie theaters, the AC Milan soccer team, department stores, publishing houses and more.

His empire came under the purview of a Fininvest holding company.

In 1994 he founded Forza Italia, which means Go Italy! La Forza Italia is an Italian conservative political party. He was later elected Prime Minister.

However, the mandate was not so easy. Shortly after beginning his term, he launched a corruption investigation into his business. This and more led to conflicts within the ruling coalition. When the problems worsened, Berlusconi resigned on December 22, 1994. However, the man remained in an interim capacity until 1995.

Then came a huge wave of trouble when he was convicted of corruption and fraud. However, these verdicts were overturned. Despite all these accusations, the man remained the leader of Forza Italia. He promised additional jobs, tax cuts, increased pensions and more. All these promises led to the victory of the center-right coalition in 2001 in the national parliamentary elections. The man became Prime Minister of the country again.

Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi died at the age of 86 at the San Rafaelle Hospital in Milan. Reports suggest the cause of death is leukemia. Last Friday he was admitted to the intensive care unit due to a lung infection. Eventually, his health condition worsened and led to his death.
