How Shadow Skirmishes work in Pokémon Go
Shadowy Skirmishes, which launched in February 2023 during the Crackling Voltage event, is the latest in the Team Go Rocket questline.
To access this research mission, you must first complete the ‘tutorial’ mission, A Worrying Situation, and complete any previous Team Go Rocket missions you have already started, such as A Development Between Egg Stings and The Grim Threat Grows.
Don’t worry if you’re too far behind in the Team Go Rocket lineup, because once you’ve completed your current Rocket mission, you’ll automatically jump to the most recent mission.
Each Team Go Rocket mission is based on defeating the criminal organization’s grunts and purifying Shadow Pokémon, which can be found in invaded PokéStops around the world.
You will also have to fight the leaders Arlo, Cliff and Sierra and, eventually, Giovanni.
Don’t forget, the Shadow Legendary highlight released alongside the debut of this quest, Shadow Registeel in the case of Shadowy Skirmishes, is technically not part of the quest itself, but rather the reward for fighting Giovanni. Because of this, you can capture the current Shadow Legendary multiple times if you have multiple Super Rocket Radars.
Aside from these specific tasks, Team Go Rocket works exactly like other investigation missions, challenging you to complete a series of objectives in a specific order.
Since Team Go Rocket missions do not expire, you will have plenty of time to complete Shadow Skirmishes. However, we recommend that you make sure to complete it, because you will not be able to access the new mission in the series, which is usually released every three months, until you do.
The Season of Adventure Abundance is here! Its first event is A Paldean Adventure, which sees the true launch of Gen 9 and the special research mission A Paldean Adventure. You can also work on the Timed Investigation: Master Ball mission and compete in Go Battle League. Be sure to compete in Shadow Raids, complete routes, use Daily Adventure Incense for a chance to encounter Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres. This incense can also give you encounters with other rare Pokémon in Pokémon Go.
