The sky in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a huge area that you can explore in the clouds above the land of Hyrule, but it can sometimes be a little tricky to navigate due to its fractured nature.
Once Link freefalls to Hyrule, you’ll be able to explore all of his new content in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom at your own pace, but you’ll eventually have to return to the sky at some point.
To help you get to the various fragmented areas in the sky, we quickly go over all the ways we know to get to the Sky Islands in TOTK below.

How to get to the Sky Islands in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
We currently know four ways to get to heaven in Tears of the Kingdom:
- Teleport to shrines
- Use recovery ability to mount a rewinding object
- Sliding from a Skyview Tower
- Using the travel medallion
Teleport
Although teleporting to Shrines is the easiest way to reach the sky, it is not always the best method, as there is no guarantee that the floating islands surrounding a Shrine can take you to your desired destination.
The sky is also much more difficult to navigate than the surface of Hyrule due to its floating and fragmented islands, so we recommend learning about other ways to reach the Sky Islands as well.
However, if you want to give it a try, you’ll want to check out our list of Tears of the Kingdom Shrines locations.
Using recovery
This new ability is acquired at the Nachoyah Shrine, located in the Hall of Awakening on Great Sky Island during the beginning of the game.
You can use Recall on many things throughout your travels in Hyrule to solve puzzles, attack enemies, and quickly take to the sky. You’ll see the path an item will take when you equip Recall and point it at something usable, so you can tell if the item can take you to fall above Hyrule or not.
Make sure you are on the item after using Recall so you can go up with it!
Using Skyview Towers
Skyview Towers are your new Sheikah Towers in Tears of the Kingdom, and they allow you to fill large portions of the map when Link launches from one. They are also a great way to reach specific areas of the sky and find hidden shrines and secrets on bits of small floating platforms.
So keep an eye out for these floating platforms as you drop down after using a Skyview Tower and glide onto one if you want to get to the sky this way. Just keep in mind that you will most likely have to use more of Link’s abilities to continue ascending to other platforms above him.
Using the travel medallion
The Travel Medallion is back! This useful item was first seen in the Breath of the Wild DLC, but fortunately it is included in the TOTK base game.
We have a full explanation on how to get the Travel Medallion, but in short, you need to complete A Mystery in the Deep quest for Robbie to move into the lab in Hateno Village. Once you complete both the Shrine Sensor and Robbie’s Travel Medallion quests, you’ll be able to use the Travel Medallion to mark an area you want to fast travel to.

The Travel Medallion can also be upgraded by talking to Robbie, so you can eventually mark three fast travel locations on your map.
