The ‘Unable to join’ error in Helldivers 2 is currently causing problems for players who have been waiting almost a decade for this sequel.

But don’t panic: Arrowhead, the developers of Helldivers 2, have confirmed that they are working on a fix for the “Failed to join lobby” and “Quickplay” errors.

However, if you are looking for a possible solution, we explain how to fix the “Join Failed” and “Quick Play” errors in Helldivers 2 below. Just keep in mind that there is a chance this solution may not work.

How to Fix ‘Failed to Join Lobby’ and ‘Quick Play’ Errors in Helldivers 2

As of this writing, there is no definitive fix for the “Failed to join lobby” and “Quick Play” errors that occur in Helldivers 2. (Although we do have some recommendations on how to fix them after the following statement.)

The good news, however, is that the developers are working on a fix with the official Arrowhead Game Studios X account (formally known as Twitter) posting this statement from game director Mikael Eriksson:

The above Tweet follows the following statement posted on the official Helldivers 2 Discord on Thursday, February 8 by Johan Pilestedt, CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios:

‘Hello everyone!

Today there was a bit of a crisis in the studio, so I haven’t been as active as I would have liked. We’re seeing pairing issues, as well as some of the unfortunate login screen crashes or glitches.

Just wanted to let everyone know that we are working as hard as we can to resolve these issues, the volume of players exposed some shenanigans in the system that went through many, many, many hours of testing.

We’ve tried to resolve it on the backend only, but it looks like we’ll have to patch the game to resolve the issue. I’m sorry for this and thank you for your patience.

For now I recommend teaming up with people in the community, as teaming up with friends works well.

I hope you’re enjoying the experience once you get into the game.’

Since the “Failed to join lobby” and “Fast Play” errors are probably caused by overloaded servers, we have to wait for Arrowhead to fix the problem in the end. Aside from following your suggestion of teaming up with friends or playing Helldivers 2 as a single player, there are two ways to fix this error.

The first is to disable Crossplay and the second is to simply reload the game. Disabling crossplay may fix the “Lobby Joining Failed” issue as it will help the servers filter out the additional teammates you will be looking for.

You can disable Crossplay in Helldivers 2 as follows:

  1. Enter the ‘Options’ tab of the ‘Pause’ menu
  2. Select the ‘Gameplay’ option
  3. Find the ‘Cross Play’ option
  4. Select ‘Off’
  5. Make sure the modified settings have been saved

Again, these are not definitive fixes for the “Failed to join lobby” and “Quick Play” errors, so be prepared for the problems to continue. If this is the case for you, we again recommend that you find other players who are happy to play through the “Friends” matchmaking option.

Hopefully Arrowhead will fix the issue soon, and if you want to stay up to date with their progress, we recommend joining the official Helldivers 2 Discord community.
