How to complete the Elden Ring Sorceress Sellen questline

The character Sellen in Elden Ring is a sorceress who was banished from Raya Lucaria Academy.

Sellen not only teaches magic (making it interesting for magically inclined characters) but also has a long (and very complicated) questline. Sellen’s quest is worth completing not only for the equipment you get, but also because you will be able to see places that would otherwise remain undiscovered.

Follow this guide and we will show you all the steps necessary to complete Sellen’s side quest.

Where to find the sorceress Sellen

You will encounter Sellen for the first time east of Limgrave in Waypoint Ruins.

Here you have to enter the basement and kill the mini-boss called Pumpkin Head. Then open the door and you will find Sellen, who reveals that she is willing to teach you sorcery. She accepts her offer and then finds Azur.

Find Azur on Mount Gelmir.

You will only be able to continue the search for Sellen after you have met the primordial mage Azur. It is located on Mount Gelmir, north of Hermit Village.

Once you have found the Azure Primal Sorcerer’s Place of Grace, start trying to talk to him (he himself remains silent) and he will give you the Azure Comet. He brings the Azure Comet to Sellen and then listen to his story and you will become his apprentice.

Sellen owns a witch shop

Sellen has a variety of spells that can be expanded with the scrolls he has found and sells:

  • Shining Stone Pebble: 1000 runes
  • Shining Stone Pebble: 3000 runes
  • Shining Stone Pebble: 1,500 runes
  • Crystal Flurry: 1,500 runes
  • Scholar’s Weaponry: 3000 runes
  • Scholar’s Shield: 2500 runes
  • Glintblade Phalanx: 2500 runes
  • Carian Slicer: 1,500 runes
  • Great Sparkling Stone Shard: 2000 runes
  • Swift Sparkling Stone Shard: 600 runes
  • Glintstone Cometshard: 12,000 runes
  • Starfall: 10,000 runes
  • Fragment Spiral: 8,000 runes

Find the sorcerer Lusat

Sellen needs your help to find Master Lusat, who is rotting in a dungeon (after being expelled from the Academy). Here you will receive a Sellian Sealbreaker.

Use this key to head to Sellia Hideaway in Caelid. You will find it in this location southwest of Faroth Fortress:

You have to roll or hit the rock wall from the outside to open the hiding place.

Then you will have to go down to the bottom of the cave and find a glowing stone wall that you will have to open with Sellen’s key.

Inside you will find the remains of Master Lusat, look for him and you will learn the Stars of Ruin spell.

Return Sellen to him and after defeating Starscourge Radahn in Redmane Castle, she will tell you that it is just a projection.

Finding Sellen’s body

Sullen says his body is imprisoned near the Witchbane Ruins.

Head to the Weeping Peninsula and look for the Witchbane Ruins. They are located south of the Fourth Church of Marika.

Go down the stairs and you will find Sellen chained to the wall.

Interact with her and you will receive Sellen’s Primal Glintstone (her soul or essence, so to speak, and therefore an important key item).

Meet the witch hunter Jerren

Now, travel back to Castle Redmane, where you will meet Witch Hunter Jerren in the throne room.

During the dialogue, he talks about wanting to settle scores, but that doesn’t make much sense at first. She keeps talking until she has nothing new to say.

Note: If you have already been here, talked to him, and exhausted his dialogue, this step is not necessary.

Return to the Witchbane Ruins, where you will see Jerren standing next to Sellen. She talks to him again until she repeats the same thing.

Activate Sellen’s doll

Now travel to the Three Sisters area in Liurnia and look northeast of Ranni’s Tower.

At this point, guarded by a single nobleman, you can discover a secret passage to a basement rolling on the floor:

On the back you will discover the message: “Seluvis’s puppet. Do not touch.” To the left, you can destroy what appears to be a wall.

You will find a doll from Sellen’s body, into which you will need to insert Primal Glintstone. This brings life to the doll and she is now available in this place as a magic teacher.

On the side of Sellen or Jerren?

To complete the quest, you must have already defeated Rennala at Raya Lucaria Academy.

You’ll find two call signs in front of the entrance to the Great Library: one for Sellen and one for Jerren.

The mission can now end in two ways:

  • Summon Sellen and kill Jerren and you will receive several items as a reward: Eccentric Armor Set and the Glintstone Kris weapon.
    • Sellen remains in the library until he finds Lusat.
    • After Sellen’s transformation, you will be able to revisit Azur and Lusat’s bodies to obtain their clothes.
  • Summon Jerren and kill Sellen and you will also receive several items as a reward: Sellen’s Sound Pearl and the Witch’s Shining Stone Crown.
    • You will receive from him, for example, an ancient dragon forging stone.
    • You can then kill Jerren to remove his clothes.

And so it’s done, you’ve completed Sorceress Sellen’s overly complicated questline. Looking for more help with your journey through the Between Lands? Check out our guides on the best weapons, best classes, and best Elden Ring summons.
